Yesterday, 23.02.2009 Xx5y did a presentation at the weekly c3l meeting. The topic this time was: “How to program AVR uControlers in C with eclipse and the eclipse-avr plugin” and it was just great!
This time there were less people than the week before where we received the DECT Hacker Crew, but still a lot of interested hackers were present.
The number of active members is increasing constantly, thats just great.
So, now back to the topic, the presentation. I’m really a novice in this micro-controller stuff, and here I had the possibility to learn a lot, as Xx5y is really good at explaining things and answers every question in a very professional way (and I had a lot)
Xx5y is playing around with this controllers on a hobby basis for quite a while and he shared his experience.
Firstly, he introduced us to the concepts of such a controller, for example that it isn’t a Neumann architecture.
Then, the second part of the presentation was a kind of live tutorial on how to use this avr-eclipse plugin. Even if there were some difficulties, well lets name it bugs and exceptions the concept was explained quite well and I think everyone got the idea.
Klenge_Feitz tried this plugin this morning at his work, he told me. So you see, people attending this workshop liked the idea of this plugin.
All in all, a really great evening for me and I think the other present nerds found that too.
Next meeting is a regular meeting, until now nobody set a special event for that date. Mhhh. I want to do a presentation in the next weeks, but what will the topic be?! Let me surprise you

Yesterday (16.02), was a really cool day. I started to work at SES ASTRA. I’ll hack code there for the next 15 weeks. If everything goes on as it is now it will be a great experience. Cool people with plenty of skills work there: sitting next to a very motivated PhD Student and in front of adulau. I got a T60 for my work, same Laptop as I own, great thing, it supports vmx, that’s great if you have to use qemu, you can speed it up a lot with kvm…
Furthermore, it’s just fun to work there, working hours are flexible, I can work from my home if I want… cantine is really cheap, for less than 3 euro you get a whole menu including a drink. Uni.lu would need something like that, too. I look forward to increase my skills a lot during this period, I already learned quite a lot for the first day.
After the work I headed home, ate a piece and went to seppl to prepare everything for the C3L meeting, special guests were Ralf and Krater, from dedected.org I was really surprised about the amount of hackers that found the way to this meeting, people from Germany, France, Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg were present. The Clubroom was quite full, 23-25 hackers were present I think… Ralf and Krater shortly rehashed what they reached in DECT hacking, and answered a lot of questions, and even demonstrated their work.(One hacker meant: “it’s tragic but it works”, I liked it) For me it was a great evening, and if I trust the feedback I got I’m not a isolated case
So, this meeting was just great, but next will be great too!
